The Word of H.E. Ambassador of Belgium Dear EBBA Members & Friends of EBBA,
Belgium has hanged around in Egypt since "Mohammad Ali".
Belgium was, during some thirty years in the XIX century, the first or second industrial power in the world.
The incredible activism is to be noted everywhere in Egypt, from "Imbaba" bridge to "Heliopolis"; Belgium was the 3D investor in Egypt before World War I indeed, the (Empain) group, the railways, the tramways, tourism, bridges, the Stella beer, there were more than 40 Belgian companies active in Egypt before the sixties.
Of course, times have changed, and Belgium, with a population of the size of Giza, is dwarfed by modern actors of gigantic proportion. But we never ceased to be entrepreneurs, active and innovative, and Belgium leads the pack in many a topic, including chemicals, petrochemicals, health research, agro food... The enlargement of the Suez Canal, the building of new ports, the building of the Grand Egyptian Museum, the glamorous hotels along the Corniche, Belgium is still very everywhere to be seen; We remain as of today a noticeable trade partner of Egypt, ranking easily in the top 20. Egypt is Belgium's second market in Africa, and second market in the Middle East.
Egypt's economic future is bright. It benefits from an incredible strategic location, and is investing squarely to become a hub for eastern med. It provides stability, educated workforce, connections, abundant energy, and space. It is at peace with all its neighbors.
Today, there is great sense in uniting Antwerp, the energy and logistical hub of northern Europe, with the Suez canal zone, the upcoming hub of the Mediterranean. Possibilities are endless in connecting our energy and logistical hubs.
But besides grand strategic schemes, what makes Belgium attractive as a partner is its humane size. With Belgian partners, the top management is never very far away. One knows each other. In a buoyant ecosystem of small and medium size companies, personal relations are of the essence. Economic bilateral relations will thrive if friendly, personal links are built among decision makers in Belgium and Egypt. And to this account, EBBA plays an important role, a vital role in bringing people together, building knowledge and friendship, and spreading information on the business environment.
I wish to thank warmly EBBA, the members of the board, and all its members, for their relentless work, benefitting both Egypt and Belgium. I wish you every success in your endeavors, and you can count on the Embassy's full support.

بلجيكا متعلقة بمصر منذ عهد (محمد علي)
ففي القرن التاسع عشر - ولحقبة تقترب من ثلاثين عاماً - ظلت بلجيكا هي القوة الصناعية الأولى أو الثانية على مستوى العالم
وقد ترجم هذا نفسه بوضوح من خلال النشاط المذهل الذي بسط نفسه في كل مكان في مصر: من جسر (امبابة) وحتى منطقة (هليوبوليس)
بإمكاننا أن نقول أن بلجيكا كانت قد أصبحت بالفعل هذا المستثمر الثلاثي الأبعاد في مصر قبيل بداية الحرب العالمية الأولى
فتأتي مجموعة (إمباين), والسكك الحديدية, والترام, والجسور, وحتى بيرة (ستيلا), لتخبرنا أن ما يتجاوز 40 شركة بلجيكية كانت نشطة بالفعل في مصر قبل بداية حقبة الستينيات
وبالطبع مع تغير الزمن, فإن بلجيكا - التي يبلغ تعدادها عدد سكان مدينة مثل (الجيزة) - قد تضاءلت مساحة مشاركتها نسبيا أمام جهات أخرى فرضت نفسها بقوة على المشهد. لكننا لم نتوقف أو نتوانى أبدا عن دورنا كرواد نشطين للأعمال ذوي همة وابتكار، فبلجيكا تتصدر المنافسة في العديد من المجالات، مثل الكيماويات والبتروكيماويات والأبحاث الصحية والأغذية الزراعية
وفي لمحة إلى مشروعات هامة تدور رحاها في الحاضر كتوسعات قناة السويس, والموانئ الجديدة, والمتحف المصري الكبير, والفنادق الفاتنة المقامة بطول كورنيش النيل، ندرك أن بلجيكا مازالت في موقع قريب من كل ما يجري على ساحة التطوير. ومازلنا حتى اليوم شريكا تجاريا مميزا لمصر بين العشرين الأوائل، كما أن الأسواق المصرية كمستورد للمنتجات البلجيكية تأتي في المرتبة الثانية على مستوى إفريقيا والشرق الأوسط أيضا
إن مستقبل مصر الاقتصادي مشرق، فهي تتمتع بموقع استراتيجي مذهل، وتستثمر بشكل مباشر لتصبح مركزاً لشرق المتوسط يوفر الاستقرارا والقوى العاملة المتعلمة والاتصالات والطاقة الوفيرة والمساحة،بجانب أنها تعيش في حالة سلام مع جميع جيرانها
واليوم، هناك اتجاه قوي لتوحيد (أنتويرب)، والتي تمثل مركز الطاقة واللوجستيات لشمال أوروبا، مع منطقة (قناة السويس) المركز القادم للبحر المتوسط. لذلك فالاحتمالات لا حصر لها في ربط المصادر الطاقة والمحاور اللوجيستية
ولكن إلى جانب الخطط الاستراتيجية الكبرى، فإن ما يجعل بلجيكا جذابة كشريك هو حجمها الإساني. فإن الشراكة البلجيكية دائما ما تجعل الإدارة العليا قريبة جدا. فالكل يعرف الكل، كما أن الأنظمة البيئية المزدهرة للشركات الصغيرة والمتوسطة الحجم تعتبر العلاقات الشخصية شئ جوهري في التعامل
يمكنني أن أؤكد أن العلاقات الاقتصادية الثنائية سوف تزدهر إذا تم بناء روابط شخصية ودية بين صانعي القرار في بلجيكا ومصر. وهذا الشأن تحديدا تلعب فيها الجمعية المصرية البلجيكية لرجال الأعمال دورا مهماً وحيويا في التقريب بين الأفكار والاتجاهات وبناء المعرفة والصداقة وكذلك نشر المعلومات حول بيئات الأعمال المختلفة
أود أن أشكر مجلس الإدارة وجميع الأعضاء بعمق على عملهم الدؤوب، بما يخدم مصالح البلدين على حد سواء. أتمنى لكم كل النجاح في مساعيكم، ونؤكد على ترحيب السفارة البلجيكية بدعمكم الكامل في جميع الأوقات

The Word of Mr. Rafik Attia - Chairman of EBBA Major events occurred in Egypt and the whole area during the recent 5 years, and difinitely it had a large impact on both Egypt and Belgium economic relationships.
Egypt is actually living a renainssence on difference economic, social, and cultural aspects. The new infrastructure, power, and huge construction projects for youth, as well complete reform of economic and investment legislations all are having a large positive impact on the business community.
Efforts are concentrated on encouraging the return of tourism, as well local & foreign investments, adding new hopes for the coming near future.
There are positive signs showing the increase trade between Egypt & Belgium during past years, EBBA with its members are having large part in that activity, trying to flourish investment between both countries, besides participating in charity and cultural events.
The Egyptian Embassy in Egypt as well the Egyptian Embassy & Commercial Office in Brussels were always a great support in this development.
