The Word of H.E. Ambassador of Belgium

Dear EBBA Members & Friends of EBBA,
The relations between Egypt and Belgium have a long history and continue to develop today. Belgian businessmen and Egyptian businessmen active with Belgium are an important component of this relationship. As Ambassador of Belgium in Egypt, I am proud to see that our bilateral trade relationship has continued to flourish through the years, including in difficult circumstances. It is a pleasure to see that Belgium continues to support Egypt’s development and invest in its future in so many ways.
Belgium is known for its chocolate and its French fries.  Belgium is of course much more than this. Our enterprises are innovating - contributing to creative solutions to the challenges of today in many fields, such as energy, chemistry, mechanical equipment or the food industry. Our relationship with Egypt illustrates this variety and excellence perfectly.

For over 10 years, EBBA has been contributing to the strength and vitality of the Belgo-Egyptian relationship. With more than 100 members, active in a variety of sectors, EBBA has been able to build for itself a reputation as a respected and influential organization in Cairo. Each and every single EBBA member contributes to this success.   I am particularly grateful to Ebba’s President and Board Members for their continuous engagement and proactivity in support of bilateral trade and more broadly our bilateral relations.

Egypt has gone through very challenging years. Its economy faced a critical moment in 2016.  I wish this beautiful country will find in 2017 the path to the development of its full potential to the benefit of all Egyptians. Belgium – and EBBA – have a role to play to support this. EBBA’s broad scope of activities, such as seminars or annual trade missions to Belgium, will surely contribute to this objective.

I therefore wish that 2017 will see Belgium and EBBA continue their strong partnership and that this continuously strengthened cooperation will allow us to contribute to the prosperity of both Belgium and Egypt.

The Word of Mr. Rafik Attia - Chairman of EBBA

Major events occurred in Egypt and the whole area during the recent 5 years, and difinitely it had a large impact on both Egypt and Belgium economic relationships.

Egypt is actually living a renainssence on difference economic, social, and cultural aspects. The new infrastructure, power, and huge construction projects for youth, as well complete reform of economic and investment legislations all are having a large positive impact on the business community.
Efforts are concentrated on encouraging the return of tourism, as well local & foreign investments, adding new hopes for the coming near future.
There are positive signs showing the increase trade between Egypt & Belgium during past years, EBBA with its members are having large part in that activity, trying to flourish investment between both countries, besides participating in charity and cultural events.
The Egyptian Embassy in Egypt as well the Egyptian Embassy & Commercial Office in Brussels were always a great support in this development.

Rafik Attia
Chairman of EBBA
